Stay Cool This Summer: Interior Tips

01 August 2025

As the summer sun shines bright, keeping your home cool and comfortable becomes a top priority. At Concept Homes, we design each home with energy efficiency in mind.  In addition a few smart habits and upgrades can make your space even cooler. Here are our top tips to beat the heat indoors without overworking your AC.

1. Block the Heat at the Source

Windows can let in a surprising amount of heat. Use light-colored blinds, blackout curtains, or solar shades during the day to reduce direct sunlight and keep rooms cooler. Bonus: It also protects your furniture from UV fading!

2. Make the Most of Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans don’t actually lower the temperature but help circulate cool air effectively. Set them to rotate counterclockwise in summer—this pushes air down and creates a refreshing breeze.

3. Swap Heavy Fabrics for Breathable Ones

Trade in heavy throws and dark cushions for light, breathable materials like cotton or linen in pale tones. These not only look seasonally appropriate but also feel cooler to the touch.

4. Use Your Thermostat Strategically

A programmable thermostat can adjust temperatures when you’re away or asleep—saving energy while keeping your home comfortable. Aim for around 24–25°C (75–77°F) when you’re home and higher when you’re out.

5. Minimize Heat from Appliances

Ovens, stovetops, and even clothes dryers can raise the indoor temperature quickly. Try grilling outside, using a microwave, or preparing no-cook meals on especially hot days. And consider doing laundry in the early morning or late evening.

6. Keep Air Vents Clear

Make sure furniture, rugs, or curtains aren’t blocking your vents. A clean, unobstructed airflow means your cooling system doesn’t have to work harder than necessary.

7. Consider Energy-Efficient Upgrades

Concept Homes offers energy-saving options like advanced insulation, Low-E windows, and high-efficiency HVAC systems. These features are designed to keep your home cool in summer and warm in winter—without spiking your utility bills.

Comfort You Can Count On

Your home should be your summer sanctuary. With thoughtful design and a few seasonal adjustments, it can stay cool and inviting all season long.
